Connect Stripe Connect (the fastest way to get paid)

One button, Stripe's own onboarding, no API keys to find. The shortest path from having something to sell to a stranger being able to pay for it.

Why this one first

Every other provider asks you to find API keys in a dashboard. This one does not. You press a button, fill in Stripe's own form, and come back able to take card payments.

It creates a Standard Stripe account that belongs to you. You get your own Stripe dashboard, your own payouts, and your compliance relationship is directly with Stripe — kitty is a platform that arms checkouts, not a party to your merchant agreement.

Before you start

Nothing. You do not need an existing Stripe account; the flow creates one. Have your business details and a bank account to hand, because Stripe will ask for them.

Connecting

Settings → ConnectionsTake payments → the Stripe Connect card → Connect with Stripe.

You are handed to Stripe. Fill in their form. When you finish, you land back on the Connections page and the card reads Connected.

If you leave halfway, press Continue with Stripe and you pick up where you stopped — it will not start you a second account.

Check it actually went through

Press Test connection. This is worth doing, because abandoning Stripe's onboarding at the last step leaves an account that exists but cannot take money, and everything otherwise looks connected.

The test tells the difference. It says either Connected to <your business>, or that Stripe has not enabled payments yet — either because you did not finish, or because Stripe is still reviewing you.

The webhook

Nothing to do. Stripe Connect is one of only two providers where kitty registers its own webhook on your account automatically.

What you get

Cards, wallets, subscriptions, failed-payment recovery, and refunds you can issue from kitty. Sales tax is yours to handle — if that worries you, read the merchant-of-record options in take payments from your customers.

After it's connected

Test connection proves the key works right now, and names the account it reached — so a member with two logins can see they pasted the wrong one. Do that before you put anything on sale.

Then, in Where new checkouts go, pick this provider on its own or One page, every method, which offers every provider you've connected on a single page and quietly hides one that starts failing.

Anything already on sale keeps the provider it was armed on. A price, once created at a provider, cannot be moved — so to switch, open the venture's Revenue tab, Take off sale, then put it back on sale.

How the keys are stored

Encrypted at rest with AES-256-GCM, used server-side only, never returned to the browser, never written to a log, and never shown again after saving.

Payment keys are scoped to a venture or the whole workspace, never to you personally — two businesses in one workspace settle into two different bank accounts, so a personal key is refused for money on purpose.

Frequently asked

Do I need a Stripe account already?
No. The flow creates one for you. If you already have one, Stripe will offer to use it during onboarding.
Whose dashboard do the payments show up in?
Yours. It is a Standard connected account, so you get a full Stripe dashboard, your own payouts and your own dispute handling.
The card says connected but a test payment fails.
Press Test connection. Almost always it means Stripe's onboarding was not finished, or Stripe has not enabled charges yet. Press Continue with Stripe to resume.
